How this comparison was put together
Free limits, prices and platforms were read from each vendor's pricing page, help pages and app store listings on 21 October 2026. Styly is our own product. We did not run the same room through every app, so this page compares what each vendor publishes, not output quality. Houzz is left out because its current app no longer describes a room design tool, and Chief Architect's Room Planner page did not load. Prices change often, so check the vendor's page before you pay.
Two kinds of interior design app
Floor planner apps (Planner 5D, Homestyler, Home Planner, magicplan) have you draw or scan the room and place 3D furniture. Photo apps (Styly, RoomGPT) start from a picture of your real room and show it in a new style. Planners are better for measurements and layout. Photo apps are faster when you want to see how your room could look.
