AI Virtual Staging Prompts

Oct 9, 2026·One empty attic room, five prompts. One of them is three words long, on purpose.
1. Bedroom, with the room locked / 1. Chambre, pièce verrouillée

A virtual staging prompt has two halves: what must stay and what to add. List the walls, ceiling, window, door, floor and camera angle as unchanged, then name the furniture piece by piece. Skip the first half and the model redecorates the room itself. All five prompts below were run on the same photo of an empty attic room.

1. Bedroom, with the room locked

Prompt

Furnish this exact empty room as a bedroom. Keep the walls, the sloped ceiling, the window, the door and the wood floor exactly as they are; do not change the room's dimensions or the camera angle. Add a low double bed with white linen, one bedside table, a small rug and a floor lamp.

1. Bedroom, with the room locked

The sloped ceiling, window, door and wood floor are unchanged, and the bed, rug and lamp are in scale with the room.

2. Home office for a listing

Prompt

Furnish this exact empty room as a home office for a property listing. Keep the walls, sloped ceiling, window, door and wood floor unchanged, same camera angle. Add a simple oak desk under the window, one chair, a slim bookshelf and a plant. Daylight only, realistic photo, nothing oversized.

2. Home office for a listing

The desk sits under the window as asked and nothing is oversized. 'For a property listing' keeps the styling restrained.

3. The three-word prompt

Prompt

Stage this room.

3. The three-word prompt

This is what happens without the first half. The model added curtains, a built-in bench with shelves, a mirror and pictures: the room itself has been redecorated. For a listing, that is a misleading image.

4. Child's bedroom under the slope

Prompt

Furnish this exact empty room as a child's bedroom. Keep the walls, sloped ceiling, window, door and wood floor unchanged, same camera angle. Add a single bed with a striped duvet, a low bookshelf, a round rug and a small desk. Keep every piece of furniture below the sloped ceiling line.

4. Child's bedroom under the slope

The instruction to keep every piece below the sloped ceiling line worked: the bed, shelf and desk all fit under it.

5. Guest room, with two prohibitions

Prompt

Furnish this exact empty room as a guest bedroom in a warm minimalist style, for a rental listing. Keep the walls, sloped ceiling, window, door and wood floor unchanged, same camera angle, same daylight. Add a double bed with beige linen, two small bedside tables with lamps, and one framed print leaning on the floor. Do not add a second window, do not repaint the walls.

5. Guest room, with two prohibitions

'Do not add a second window, do not repaint the walls' kept the room intact. The framed print leaning on the floor is there because the prompt named it.

What to write in every staging prompt

  • ✓Start with 'this exact room' and list what stays: walls, ceiling, window, door, floor, camera angle.
  • ✓Name each piece of furniture and where it goes. A count is better than 'some furniture'.
  • ✓Say who the image is for. 'For a rental listing' keeps the result sober.
  • ✓Add one or two prohibitions for the things models like to invent: extra windows, new wall colours, curtains.
  • ✓Compare the result with the original photo before using it. In one of our French runs the model added a string of lights nobody asked for.

Starting from a photo of your own room

A prompt is one way to get an idea on screen. In Styly you start from a photo of your own room, choose the room type and a style, and get a new version of that room to compare with the original.

Questions

What is a good AI virtual staging prompt?

One that first lists what must stay unchanged in the room, then names each piece of furniture to add.

Why does AI change the windows or walls when staging?

Because the prompt did not say to keep them. A three-word prompt in our test added curtains and built-in furniture.

Can I use a virtually staged photo in a property listing?

Label it as virtually staged and do not alter the room itself. Rules differ by country and by portal, so check the ones that apply to you.

Does it work on a furnished room?

Yes, but ask for the furniture to be removed first, then stage the empty result.

How these prompts were tested

Each prompt on this page was run once in English and once in French on 5 October 2026 with Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. The images are those results, resized and otherwise untouched. That is one run per language: the same prompt can return a different image next time, and other tools will answer differently. Where a run went wrong, we say so.
