AI Interior Render Prompt: Make It Look Like a Real Photo

Oct 8, 2026·The same living room, described five ways. Only the photography words change.
1. The usual prompt, with quality keywords / 1. Le prompt habituel, avec les mots-clés de qualité

To make an AI interior look like a real photo, describe the camera and the conditions, not the quality. Words like '8K', 'ultra detailed' and 'cinematic lighting' push the image towards the glossy render look. Naming an ordinary camera, flat light and a few imperfections pulls it back. Below, one living room is described five ways so you can see what each wording does.

1. The usual prompt, with quality keywords

Prompt

A modern living room with a grey sofa, a wooden coffee table and a large window, beautiful interior design, 8K, ultra detailed, cinematic lighting.

1. The usual prompt, with quality keywords

This is the look to avoid: everything is styled, sunlit and symmetrical, with more furniture than was asked for. Nothing is wrong, and nothing looks lived in.

2. A phone photo by the person who lives there

Prompt

A modern living room with a grey sofa, a wooden coffee table and a large window. An ordinary photo taken with a phone by the person who lives there: eye level, default wide lens, slightly crooked framing, deep focus, window highlights a little blown out, mild noise in the shadows, unedited colour. No cinematic lighting, no glow, no shallow depth of field, no perfectly arranged cushions.

2. A phone photo by the person who lives there

Same room, different image: a plain wall, cables and objects on the table, a tilted frame. The list of things to leave out matters as much as the description.

3. An estate agent listing photo

Prompt

A modern living room with a grey sofa, a wooden coffee table and a large window. Photographed for an estate agent listing: 24mm lens on a tripod at 1.2 metres, straight verticals, all lights off, daylight only, even exposure, neutral white balance, realistic materials with small wear marks, a throw left on the sofa arm.

3. An estate agent listing photo

Tripod height, 24mm lens and straight verticals give the clean, even look of a listing photo: tidy but believable.

4. A dull November afternoon

Prompt

A modern living room with a grey sofa, a wooden coffee table and a large window, on a dull November afternoon: flat grey light, no sun patches, one lamp switched on in the corner, a radiator under the window, visible sockets and a cable along the skirting board, scuffed floor near the door. Eye-level photo, 35mm lens, unedited colour.

4. A dull November afternoon

Flat grey light, a radiator, sockets and a cable along the skirting board. Asking for bad weather and visible services is the fastest way out of the showroom look.

5. Evening, lamps only

Prompt

A modern living room with a grey sofa, a wooden coffee table and a large window, in the evening with warm lamps only: two table lamps and one floor lamp at 2700K, ceiling light off, window dark blue, soft pools of light on the wall, deep but readable shadows. Eye-level photo, 35mm lens, slight grain.

5. Evening, lamps only

With the ceiling light off and three lamps at 2700K, the room turns warm and the window goes dark blue. Lighting is what people notice first in a before-and-after.

The wording that changes the result

  • ✓Remove '8K', 'ultra detailed', 'cinematic', 'beautiful'. In our run they produced the glossy version.
  • ✓Name a real way of taking the picture: phone at eye level, or 24mm on a tripod at 1.2 metres.
  • ✓Add two or three flaws a real photo has: slightly crooked frame, blown-out window, noise in the shadows.
  • ✓Say what the weather and the lamps are doing.
  • ✓Ask for the things stylists remove: radiators, sockets, cables, a throw left on the sofa.
  • ✓End with a short list of what to leave out: no glow, no shallow depth of field, no perfectly arranged cushions.

Questions

Why do AI interior images look fake?

Mostly because the prompt asks for quality instead of conditions. Quality keywords produce perfect light and perfect styling, which no real room has.

What should I add to a prompt to make it photorealistic?

A camera position and lens, the weather or the lamps, and two or three flaws such as a slightly crooked frame.

Does a negative list help?

Yes. Ending with 'no cinematic lighting, no glow, no shallow depth of field' visibly changed the result in our run.

Which look is best for showing a client?

The listing-photo wording: tidy and evenly lit, without looking staged.

How these prompts were tested

Each prompt on this page was run once in English and once in French on 5 October 2026 with Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. The images are those results, resized and otherwise untouched. That is one run per language: the same prompt can return a different image next time, and other tools will answer differently. Where a run went wrong, we say so.
